January Letter To The Editor

On several occasions while campaigning, regarding big money in politics and corruption in Washington, Donald Trump stated that, he would “drain the swamp.”  Instead, he is skimming the scum from the swamp and stocking his Cabinet with it.  Billionaires, white supremacists, and wealthy corporate executives will now be running the government along with Trump and the GOP.

Donald Trump is the first President in History who will come into office with zero experience.  Trump has absolutely no experience in the military or in government.  And when it comes to those he is appointing to his Cabinet and other key positions, things are even worse.  Not only are the bulk of his appointees woefully inexperienced in the area of government to which they are being appointed, in many cases their personal history of statements and actions make them the exact antithesis of the vital functions they are being appointed to oversee.  Talk about putting the fox in charge of the hen house!  Many of Trump’s appointees have long histories of opposing and even wanting to abolish the very government functions and programs they have been appointed to lead!

Of course, Trump is nothing more than an egomaniac con man who lied his way into office, and who thinks that none of the laws, rules, or codes of conduct that have helped to keep our government stable and our nation strong since the beginning really apply to him.  So Conservatives, get ready to learn the Goose-Step and speak Russian, and all heil Trump!

Economics 101 For Conservatives

The most basic concept in economics involves three components: Demand, Supply, and Price. Supply is created by businesses and corporations who are producing goods and services to sell to consumers at a profit. Demand is created by consumers who not only want and need the goods and services, but also have the money to purchase them. Price is the variable that supposedly changes in response to the amount of Demand and Supply that exists. Bigger Demand and smaller Supply result in higher prices while bigger Supply and smaller Demand results in lower prices.

Of course, nothing is that simple and there are thousand of other variables involved, including the fact that the two sides of the equation, Supply and Demand, are not that separate and distinct from each other. For example, in creating Supply for sale to consumers, producers hire individuals which gives those individuals more money to spend, thus increasing Demand.

In American politics, the question becomes what role the government should play in stimulating and maintaining a healthy relationship between Supply and Demand, and thus maintaining a strong and healthy economy. Those who try and tell you that the government should NOT play any role, and that the “Invisible Hand” of a free market will take care of everything probably also still think the world is flat.

The fact of the matter is that, without government regulation of the process, preventing monopolies, unfair business practices, and business practices that defraud and even endanger consumers, there will be no economy – only a very few who have everything and the rest of the masses who have nothing.

In addition to regulating the process to prevent collapse, the government must also take actions designed to stimulate the economy and help it grow. And it is in this area that the argument between Democrats and Republicans has raged for decades. Republicans would have us believe that the only way to stimulate the economy and keep it growing to to give more tax cuts to the wealthy and tax loop holes to huge corporations. They call these folks the “Job Makers,” and tell us these people need the money in order to invest in increased production and added jobs. The added jobs will provide more spending power to consumers and thus the economy will grow. This is Supply-Side Economics, and they call it “Trickle-Down” economics.

This may all sound good in theory, but there is a fatal flaw in this reasoning. The first problem is that, in order to pay for all these tax cuts to the wealthy, Republicans keep trying to cut funding for social programs and assistance to the poor. These programs put money directly into the hands of those Americans who need it the most, and thus are most likely to spend it. And THAT is a direct boost into the Demand side of the equation. The second big problem with Supply-Side Economics is that Supply and Demand are two completely different animals. There is another complete section of the economy, called the banking industry, whose primary purpose in life is to loan money to businesses and corporations so that they can grow their businesses, increase production, and increase jobs. The primary requirement for getting these loans is the existence of a high consumer demand for their products and services. There is no equivalent part of the economy on the Demand side of the equation that is ready to give money to broke consumers so that they can spend it.

So, Trickle-Down Economics is nothing but a big scam. Giving more money to the wealthy and corporations, at the expense of consumer spending power, does nothing except fatten up the bank accounts of those corporations and wealthy individuals. No businessman in his or her right mind will increase production and add jobs if his or her customers have no money to spend on the products and services being provided. On the other hand, if your customers have a lot of money to spend, and the demand for your products is high, but you have no cash in your bank account, your local bank will be more than happy to give you a business loan so that you can increase your production and add jobs. We call that “Bubble-Up” economics.

Inauguration Day

Friday, January 20th, 2017 is inauguration day in America. For true Americans and America, it is a day of mourning. We should all be flying our American flags at half-mast that day.

On 9/11 in 2001 we watched the horrific, incomprehensible, mind-numbing collapse of the twin towers in New York City. A devastating blow to America on American soil, perpetrated by outsiders, and causing immense pain, heartache, and loss of life. But at least is was quick and a single event that left America determined and able to immediately start the healing process.

On January 20th, 2017, when Donald Trump becomes President and Congress is turned over to the GOP, we will all have to watch the beginning of the horrific, incomprehensible, mind-numbing collapse and destruction of the very core of America and American ideals, perpetrated by insiders on American soil. This will not be as sudden or as shocking as 9/11, but in the long run, the heartache, suffering, pain, and loss of life will be a thousand times worse.

For all but the wealthy top one percent in America, life will get harder and less fulfilling. More and more of the middle class will fall below the poverty level, and those who are already destitute will simply die for lack of food and health care. And the top one percent will reap the completely meaningless benefit of having even more wealth and power.

This is not only a collapse of American ideals, but also of Democracy itself and the great American experiment of self-governing and equality for all. With an egomaniac in the Oval office, and a Congress in the hands of the GOP, which are nothing but foot soldiers for the one percent, nothing in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, or Declaration Of Independence is sacred and exempt from the collapse. What’s to stop this from happening? The Judiciary??

Trump and the GOP are not even in power yet and they are already attacking the US Office of Government Ethics and the Office of Congressional Ethics. It is blindingly clear that Trump considers himself above all laws, rules, and Constitutional limitations, and the GOP has demonstrated that it is willing to change, subvert, and ignore all the rules to get their way. So, what will stop massive voter suppression from becoming outright elimination of the right to vote?

Are you ready to have to learn Russian as the official language of America? Are you ready to have Christianity become, not only the official, but the ONLY religion in America? Will we see science and Evolution removed from all school curriculum, to be replaced by Creationist and religious teachings? Will immigration become a thing of the past with America’s borders closed to all but the very wealthy? Will health care become unaffordable to all but the wealthy? Will Wall Street and Corporate deregulation bring us into another great depression?

When all of this happens (not if), take a walk over to your nearest Conservative neighbors thank them for their stupidity, and them punch them in the face.

Hypocrisy

Terms such as hypocrisy and double standard are woefully inadequate to describe today’s Conservatives and the GOP.  If Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, or ANY non Right-Wing candidate had done or said ANY of a hundred things that Donald Trump said and did during his campaign, that candidate would have been eviscerated by the Right and the media, and not only would have lost the election, but would have been run completely out of public service on a rail!

You would be hard pressed to find anything that Conservatives have complained about or attacked a Democrat for that Trump has not only done, but has taken to a whole new level.  A Trump speech is like demonstration of everything that Conservatives and the GOP have always claimed to hate.  Family values?  Integrity?  Fiscal responsibility?  These are evidently only required of a candidate that is a Democrat.

A Message For Those Who Blindly Seek Unlimited Power, Wealth, And Control

You can take my money. You can take my rights. You can take my freedom and you can even take my life. What you cannot take, and never will be able to take, is the fact that right now, in this moment of time, I know. I know who you are, I know what you are. I know what is right and what is wrong, what is true and what is false. There are millions like me here in America, and even more around the world. Those like us have always been here and always will be here. We are the aware, the awake. We are those who can see the evil, no matter how hidden or decorated with lies and deceit. We see the misery, the pain, and the devastation that comes from all that you do. We know you. We know the truth. We know what you are, and there is nothing you can do about it, and nothing you will ever be able to do about what we know in this moment in time.

So, in the end, all your lust for power, all you grabbing of wealth and control, and all your lies and deceit will fall short. Your power and control will never be complete because you cannot change the here and now and what we know about who you are, what you are, and what you are doing to others. So, no matter how much power and wealth you obtain, your satisfaction and happiness will always be ever so slightly tainted. It will be tainted because you know that we know.

December Letter To The Editor

Mr. Trump says that his is not part of “the establishment.”  Unfortunately, he is not talking about the political establishment, he is talking about the establishment of a government of\by\for the people.  He means the established laws, rules, processes, and procedures that were put in place by the Founding Fathers to prevent America from becoming just another dictatorship or kingdom.  You know, things like The Constitution, Separation of Powers, and Checks and Balances.

Donald Trump considers himself above all of that. He thinks he is above the law, The Constitution, and all the established traditions and procedures that provide a stable government and a smooth and non-violent transition of power every 4 years.

Not releasing tax returns and financial information as a candidate and not divesting himself (and his family) of all possible financial conflict of interests with foreign powers are both serious and unprecedented violations of the laws and traditions that protect us as a self-governed nation.  Congratulations Conservatives!  I know you wanted to go back to the good old days.  Well, you just sent America back to 18th century England!  We now have to start calling the 1% “Royalty” instead of just wealthy.

According to CNN, Trump got just over 46% of the popular vote, and according to Mother Jones the overall voter turnout was just under 60%.  That means less than 30% of the American electorate voted for Trump.  So Conservatives, don’t insult anyone’s intelligence with talk of mandates, political capital, or the will of the people.

October Letter To The Editor

Face it, Donald Trump is a selfish, narcissistic egomaniac.  He is not the kid who takes his ball and goes home when he loses, he’s the kid who incites his team to beat the crap out of the other team when he loses.  He is not holding political rallies, these are lynch mobs where he is the main inciter of violence.  If you think Trump supporters are not prone to violence, just try wearing a Hillary T-shirt to a Trump rally.

What Trump is doing is equivalent to building a campfire in an underground ammo bunker.  Is anyone going to be surprised at the explosion?  But Trump’s “Scorched-Earth” campaign is an extension of the GOP’s “Party of No” strategy over the last decade.  Obstructionism, unprecedented use of the filibuster, shutting down the government, and sabotaging everything that Obama and Democrats try to accomplish are just some of the childish, tantrum-like actions of the GOP in recent years.

Everything that Trump says, as well as most of what the GOP says, are lies, deceptions, and falsehoods.  If you tried to redact out the lies in a printed version of ANY of Trump’s speeches, you would need a paint brush instead of a magic marker.  At best, Trump supporters are blind and the rest of Conservatives are seriously misguided.  So angry and hostile, but for the wrong reasons and at the wrong things.  The GOP’s strategy?  Screw things up as much as possible for people, and then blame Democrats, Liberals, and minorities.

More Or Less…

More or less…..

What would you like to see change in this country? DO you think we need less gun control, more tax cuts for the wealthy, less immigration reform, more deportations, less rights for the LGBT community, more tax loop holes for large corporations, less regulation for Wall Street, more wars, less environmental protections, more subsidies for the oil companies, less affordable health care, more profits for insurance companies, less diplomacy, and more voter suppression?

Do you think we should build a wall along the Mexican border, close our borders to Muslims, outlaw all abortions, make Christianity our national religion, outlaw same-sex marriage, abolish the EPA, cut Social Security, end Medicare, end the food stamp program, abolish planned parenthood, privatize education, privatize the Postal Service, and repeal Obamacare?

That is the Republican agenda, definitely NOT the Democratic agenda, and if you think that is the direction our country should take, there are three ways you can help this to happen – 1) Vote for Donald Trump and all Republicans, 2) Don’t vote at all, or 3) Vote third-party.

This is not a threat, it is not brow-beating, it is not twisting your arm, and it is certainly not trying to tell you what to do with your vote. This is just a simple statement of a statistical fact. It is the reality of the situation. If you do not like the message, don’t shoot the messenger.

But I will say this to Democrats, Liberals, Greens, and Progressives who are thinking of voting 3rd-party or not voting at all. That is absolutely your right, and you can do whatever you want with your vote. BUT, if Trump wins and the Republicans have control of Congress and all of the above things begin to come to pass, THEN those who did not vote or voted 3rd-party had DAMN well better accept part of the responsibility for what is happening. Mayby only a tiny part of the responsibility, but you will own it.

This also only a simple statement of statistical fact – every available vote that does not go to Hillary and Democrats is one less vote that Trump and the Republicans need to win., and That’s A Fact Jack.

Can Being Open-Minded Be A Disadvantage?

Against all odds, against all logic, against all reason, and against all sanity, it appears that this election is actually a close one. America has officially slipped into “Bizzaro World.” Donald Trump should be so far behind Hillary that this election should be all but decided. The fact that he is not is a testament to the power of the vast, extremely well-funded, decades-long campaign of deception and brain-washing of the American people waged by the very few and powerful and wealthy elite in this country.

America is a widely-divided nation. Whether you label the sides of this division Left and Right, Conservatives and Liberals, or Democrats and Republicans, the irony of the situation is that what should be one of the Left’s greatest assets, the ability to think clearly and accept changes to their opinions and beliefs in the light of new information, can also work to their detriment.

Those on the right (including the “Libertarians”) seem to have their beliefs hard-wired into their brains, and will believe the one wacko voice in a sea of reason and truth that supports those beliefs. Deceiving these folks is easy – they want to be deceived.

The real work of deceiving America into self-destruction lies in sowing enough seeds of doubt into the minds of those on the Left (Including the so-called “Greens”) so that enough of them will not vote or vote third-party.

This has been successful in the past to the point that a whole new term has been coined to describe it – “Swift-Boating.” Yes, swift-boating John Kerry helped give Bush a 2nd term, and the swift-boating of Hillary has gone on for decades and is in full-swing today. And sadly, it is working, even on some of the smartest and staunchest Liberals and Progressives I know. With enough lies, enough accusations, repeated over and over, even those who usually think for themselves can be affected. If Trump was not the worst and most despicable candidate in history, he would be WAY out in front by now. But with enough deceit, even the Devil could win an election.

So why are free-thinkers at a disadvantage?? Because you cannot sway those on the Right with any amount of truth, reason, and facts, but with enough deceit and swift-boating, you may be able to fool some of those on the Left.

September Letter To The Editor

Donald Trump lives in a triangular universe.  At one corner of the triangle is what he actually thinks and believes.  At the 2nd corner is what he says in public, and at the third corner is truth and reality.  These three corners are completely unconnected and have nothing in common.

Why is it that Conservatives are supporting a candidate who utterly fails every test that Conservatives have been touting for years as absolutely essential for a President?  Family values??  Anyone out there giving him better than an ‘F’ grade on that?  Foreign policy experience??  Zippo on that!  Integrity??  Fiscal responsibility??  Give him an ‘F’ on those as well.

So why is Trump the GOP nominee?  Perhaps it is because he gets an ‘A’ in all the things that are the secret requirements for the GOP to support someone for President.  He is wealthy, he is an angry white man, he excels in deception and manipulation, he hates everyone who is not white and Christian, he treats women like property, he is a racist, a bigot, and a chauvinist, and most of all, he is willing to do and say anything to get what he wants.  Sounds like a perfect fit for the GOP!

The rise of Donald Trump has finally exposed what the GOP and the radical right are all about.  So Conservatives, are you going to follow the other lemmings off the cliff, or are you going to think for yourself for a change?
